Couple of days back, Microsoft had launched the new Windows Phone 8 operating system and also the Windows Phone SDK 8.0.
I had the opportunity to attend the Windows Phone 8 India launch event that was held on October 30, 2012 at “The Park Hotel”, New Delhi.
The event had Vineet Durani, Director, Windows Phone Business Group who introduced some of the features in Windows Phone 8 and showed a demo on some of the exciting features in Windows Phone 8 like
- Windows Phone Store
- Internet Explorer 10 for Windows Phone
- Start Screen and Tiles
- Kids’ Corner
- And more…
Windows Phone 8 handsets from Nokia, Samsung and HTC were made available for the demo during the Windows Phone launch event.
We had the opportunity to try out the following Windows Phone handsets during the event
- Nokia Lumia 820
- Nokia Lumia 920
- HTC’s Windows Phone 8S
- HTC’s Windows Phone 8X
- Samsung ATIV S
The Windows Phone devices from Huawei were missing though
The Nokia Lumia 920 features a 4.5″ WXGA HD IPS LCD, 1280 x 768 resolution, Pure Motion HD+ 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass display with 32 GB internal user memory and 1.5 Ghz Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor. Nokia Lumia 920 also features NFC with secure element on SIM, A-GPS + GLOSNASS, WLAN (2.4/5 GHz) a/b/g/n, µUSB, BT 3.0, Accelerometer, Proximity, Magnetometer, Gyroscope.
The Nokia Lumia 820 features a 4.3″ Clear Black OLED WVGA 480 x 800 pixel resolution display with 8GB internal user memory and a 8MP camera.
Interesting feature of the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 is the Wireless Charging.
The Samsung ATIV S features a large screen of 4.8”HD (1280×720) Super AMOLED Touch: C Type display with the dimension of Dimension: 137.2 x 70.5 x 8.7mm.
The HTC’s Windows Phone 8 handsets Windows Phone 8X comes with a display of 4.3 inch super LCD 2 touch screen with HD 720p resolution , Gorilla® Glass 2 which makes it look awesome . It also includes G-Sensor, Digital compass, Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor etc.
The HTC’s Windows Phone 8S comes with 4 inch super LCD touch screen with WVGA resolution , Gorilla® Glass with the 1 Ghz CPU Snapdragon S4 processor and 4 GB internal storage.
