Google , in its blog has announced the new election advertisement and verification policies which would be rolling out this week.
As per the blog , Google will initially require extra verification from the buy when they attempt to buy an election ad in the US which would be the starting point. The company also plans to launch additional transparency efforts later this summer.
To start with , Google will be verifying the identity of election advertisement buyers that includes if they are either the lawful permanent resident or a US citizen. As a result , the buy would be expected to provide a government ID and other “key information”. Additionally , Google will also require a clear disclosure revealing who would be paying for the advertisement.
