I have used Notepad++ for a long time. I still use it for many tasks. But these days I use Vim more than anything. One can use it for many things (not only editing) like calling external apps and applying them to the document and things like that.

Good article, but I’m noticing a lack of details on pricing/licensing.

An open source solution that is not mentioned here but is freely available and works quite well is http://epplus.codeplex.com/. A recent update includes conditional formatting (which is recent addition).

Works rather well for generating spreadsheets and also allows you to format the page for those silly users.

Personally I was concentrated mostly on point 1 – I want an ORM with some kind of tech support so that I am sure my project will not have data access show-stoppers. What do you think about OpenAccess from Telerik? I am now starting to use it in one project.

I’ve installed ubunto on my laptop, and I’m growing fond of the ui. Although it takes a while to get used to interface (as it’s not a windows, and not yet a mac), ubuntu simplifies a lot of processes, and I like the graphics, which is very clean,

so yes, i would definitely be looking forward to seeing ubunto on smartphones!

Senthil,

Using D7/CR10 to hit an MSSQL db via OLE DB I’m having a hard time changing the hard coded designated database the report template is hitting. I’m using statements like

aReport.Database.Tables.Item[1].ConnectionProperties.Item['Initial Catalog'].Value:=newDB;

but the report is still hitting the old db. Got any pointers?

Another major difference is that TRUNCATE does not allow foreign keys on the table, you need to drop and recreate any foreign keys.
DELETE on the other hand only requires you to delete from tables in the correct order or use cascading deletes.

I think use a multi core browser is better under this situation.If you want to use IE, just use IE engine, want to use firefox, then use firefox engine. As I know ,there are already many browsers can do it. such as maxthon. Avant browser, lunascapt ect. In these browsers,I have used maxthon and Avant browser, they are both good.

Personally I also think TekPub (http://tekpub.com/) is a good one as well. Not as speedy on the updates as Pluralsight for example, but then again, TekPub is not such a big company. I haven’t checked in a while, but about a year ago they had some great videos on for instance ASP.NET MVC and NHibernate.

I would add that it’s pretty tough to live without a nice chair/desk setup. If you spend 40+ hours per week writing code at a desk, I’d say it’s pretty important to be comfortable if you want to be productive.

I can perfectly well live without a desktop computer. I’ve got a 2nd monitor on my laptop (not Windows!), and I’m quite happy. Personally, I can’t live without bash, awk, sort, join, etc., whether it’s on linux, OSX or cygwin…
